DTotD: QPR’s Sandro red carded for choke-slamming opponent

There have been many fashionable trends that have come and gone in the beautiful game: snoods, white boots and failing to shake hands with an opponent are just a few examples.

The latest trend, however, appears to be the act of objecting to a tackle by throwing the assailant to the ground. On Saturday, Nemanja Matic gave Ashley Barnes a jolly good shoving, while Worcester City’s Shabir Khan performed a WWE-style body slam on a player who had just scythed him down.

On Monday, Queens Park Rangers midfielder Sandro continued the trend during an U21 game at Bristol City. The former Tottenham star—who hasn’t played for the Hoops’ senior side since November—was sent tumbling by a tackle late in the game.

Despite the fact that the challenging player won the ball in what appeared to be a fairly innocuous challenge, the red mist descended and the Brazilian grabbed his opponent by the neck before throwing him to the ground. Cue red card.

Most senior professionals know better than to get on the wrong side of Sandro, but the Bristol youngster should just be faithful that he didn’t unleash any of his martial arts moves…

This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
