Didier Drogba brings Mourinho mind games to MLS

Didier Drogba has gotten off to a tremendous start in MLS, scoring eight goals in his first eight matches, but scoring prowess isn’t all he’s brought to the league. During Wednesday’s match against the New York Red Bulls, Drogba demonstrated what he’s learned from former manager Jose Mourinho on the art of getting under an opponent’s skin.

In the 30th minute, with New York already up 1-0, Sacha Kljestan prepared to take his second penalty of the night. Since he already converted one, Drogba decided to try and put him off by approaching the ball that Kljestan had already placed. Seeing this, Kljestan intervened, shoving Drogba as he moved the ball.

Kljestan went on to produce a weak shot that was saved by Montreal goalkeeper Evan Bush, prompting Drogba to nod his head and smirk in satisfaction of his own efforts.

Drogba went on to score a penalty of his own in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to keep Montreal from losing 2-1.
