LA Galaxy delay CONCACAF Champions League trip so Steven Gerrard can watch Liverpool cup final

Steven Gerrard, a man who still looks weird in a kit other than Liverpool’s, was afraid his LA Galaxy commitments would prevent him from watching Liverpool face Man City in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday. But Galaxy coach Bruce Arena came to the rescue by rearranging the whole club’s schedule to accommodate Gerrard’s wish.

The former Liverpool captain tells the story in his column for the Telegraph:

I have to thank my manager Bruce Arena for allowing me to see the game at all. When Liverpool reached the final the first thing I did was check our fixture list, hoping to get to Wembley.

Instead, I will be preparing for the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League tie with Santos Laguna of Mexica [sic].

When I told Bruce the kick-off time, he pushed training and our flight to Mexico back an hour on Sunday to ensure I didn’t miss it.

Like with every Liverpool match this season, I will be watching but trying to kick every ball. I will feel like I have played.

With Liverpool now set to play Man United in the Europa League round of 16, the LA Galaxy have presumably given all staff the day off on March 10 and March 17.
