Atalanta captain wears Frozen armband for daughter’s birthday

The latest in armband fashions

(Papu Gomez/Instagram)

Atalanta captain Papu Gomez, who you may remember as the guy who two-footed his own son on the beach a couple weeks ago, marked his return to the pitch by wearing a custom armband featuring characters from the animated film Frozen for his daughter’s birthday. No points for guessing which is his favorite child.

Gomez ended up scoring two goals within the first half hour of his side’s 4–1 win over Chievo Verona, which you kind of have to do if you’re going to wear Disney characters on your arm while you play.

This is just the latest in a long line of topical armbands Gomez has worn, though.

Hopefully this catches on and more captains bring some personality to their armbands, but, knowing FIFA, it’s probably just a matter of time before they ban the practice.

Atalanta player takes out his son with two-footed tackle

Dirty Tackle of the Day

You don’t become a pro footballer by picking and choosing when you play hard and Atalanta striker Papu Gomez’s son learned this lesson the hard way. While playing with his father on the beach during the winter break, the younger Gomez was on the receiving end of a rather nasty two-footed challenge…which the perpetrator than posted on Instagram himself.

And that’s the story of how Papu Gomez’s son decided he never wants to play football with his father ever again.

This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.

Torino list Joe Hart as “John Hart” on team sheet for his debut

It wasn’t the best Serie A debut for Joe Hart, as his club, Torino, lost 2-1 to Atalanta. Hart failed to control a corner kick, in the 56th minute, gifting Atalanta with an equalizer just two minutes after Torino opened the scoring. Then, in the 82nd minute, Atalanta scored a winner from the penalty spot.

The shaky start to his season-long loan abroad can be blamed on a “John Hart” though, as that’s the name Torino listed on their team sheet.

Struggling with injuries and out of favor with Roma manager Luciano Spalletti, it seemed Francesco Totti might have already scored his last goal in a Roma shirt way back in September. Cologne’s Jonas Hector beats five defenders to score tremendous solo goal

Jonas Hector scored the deciding goal in Cologne’s 3-2 win against Hoffenheim on Sunday, weaving through and jumping over a total of five defenders before beating the keeper with a deflected shot.

If that was the best individual goal of the weekend, then Atalanta had the best team goal when German Denis’ overhead shot was set up by a backheel and a header.
