RB Leipzig striker’s shot boomerangs off a defender and hits him in the face

This is just spectacular. Red Bull Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer tried to take a shot off the rebound in a 2. Bundesliga match against Nürnburg, but the ball ricocheted off a defender and hit him in the face, sending him to the ground.

Elsewhere, in Bochum’s 5-0 win over Greuther Fürth, a defender deflection worked to Terrazzino’s advantage, setting up a terrible attempt to clear the ball off the goal line…

Aalen player scores comical scorpion kick own goal

It has not been a good season for VfR Aalen. Sitting at the very bottom of the 2. Bundesliga, their season got even worse with a 4-2 loss to Bochum on Sunday and the last of those four goals was just plain silly. Aalen forward Collin Quaner swung his leg behind his back in a bid to try and deflect a Bochum cross into the box and in doing so, he scored a lovely backheel.

Quaner’s teammates groaned, one of them even covered his face with his shirt, but the 23-year-old couldn’t help but chuckle at his mishap. It was that kind of goal and it’s been that kind of season.

Union Berlin halt match in eighth minute to honor teammate diagnosed with cancer

German second division club Union Berlin have rallied around 34-year-old midfielder Benjamin Kohler, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma when doctors found a malignant tumor in his stomach. The club quickly acted by extending his contract, which was due to expire at the end of this season, until 2016.

But with Kohler in the stands for Union’s 2. Bundesliga match against Bochum, his teammates organized another show of support by getting their opponents to agree to halt the match in the eighth minute (they were shooting for the seventh minute, since that’s Kohler’s shirt number, but couldn’t quite get the timing down) and leading everyone in the stadium in applauding him.
