Chile beat defending Copa America champions Uruguay 1-0 in an expectedly feisty quarterfinal match. With Luis Suarez unavailable to lead everyone down the path of anarchy, the responsibility fell to everyone else. And in the 62nd minute, Edinson Cavani was shown a second yellow for slapping Chile’s Gonzalo Jara in the face.

For the third consecutive time, England have been eliminated in the group stage of the U-21 European Championship, ensuring that the senior team’s next generation is prepared for the soul-crushing international career that awaits them.

Netherlands player has shot thwarted by her other foot

The Netherlands had a chance to take an early lead against Japan when Manon Melis slipped past the world champions’ back line, but then her right foot thought “dribble” just before her left foot thought “shoot.” This proved to be a problem.

Melis ended up on the ground as the ball trickled over the endline and Japan went up 1-0 a few minutes later. This was very much out of character for Melis, however. She was voted the top player in Sweden’s Damallsvenskan in 2010 and she has 55 international goals in 125 appearances.

DTotD: Real Salt Lake player goes up for a header, forgets about existence of the post right in front of him

Real Salt Lake’s Luke Mulholland was so focused on the ball while going up for a header while basically standing inside the goal that he forgot that everything else existed and jumped directly into the goal post.

The only way he could have played this off well is if he got up and demanded that the ref show the post a yellow card.
