Russian defender smashes car into a pole at 105 mph, escapes with minor injuries

Anzhi Makhachalka defender and Russian international Andrey Yeshchenko ran his Nissan GT-R through a roadside electrical pole at 105 mph. Amazingly, he walked away from the crash.

From the Moscow Times:

Miraculously, Yeshchenko is seen in the video emerging from the wreckage. He later attended a medical examination and doctors declared him to have escaped from the crash with minor injuries, the report said.

The footballer was driving at 170 kilometers an hour at the time of the accident, an unidentified police source was cited as saying by LifeNews.

That means Argentine footballer Ever Banega suffered worse consequences when he forgot to set the handbrake on his car and it rolled over his foot than Yeshchenko did after losing control and hitting a pole at 105 mph. I’m not sure if there’s a lesson in that.

Why Cristiano Ronaldo’s petulance doesn’t bother Real Madrid

It’s a now familiar scene: Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate scores and while everyone else celebrates, he pouts because he felt it should have been him. It happened again when Alvaro Arbeloa (of all people) came sliding in to finish what Ronaldo thought would be an easy tap-in for Real Madrid’s final goal in a 3-0 win against Almeria.

As soon as the ball hit the back of the net, Ronaldo was visibly upset — presumably because he missed out on his 40th La Liga goal of the season to go two ahead of Lionel Messi as the league’s top scorer. He furiously kicked the ball back at the net and shook his head as Arbeloa and Fabio Coentrao embraced behind him.

Chelsea players pull off lunch table trick, celebrate like they’ve won the league

A video posted by didierdrogba (@didierdrogba) on

Jose Mourinho and John Terry were quick to give their responses to critics labeling Chelsea as boring and now Didier Drogba has made his case with an Instagram video.

Captioned “Boring boring chelseaaa!!!!!” the video has seven Chelsea players (Loic Remy, Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Eden Hazard, Drogba, Thibaut Courtois, and John Obi Mikel sitting across from each other at the lunch table. They head the ball across the table and down the line until Mikel finishes off the routine (a daring choice) with a fall away header into a strategically placed bin beside the table. They then celebrate like they just sealed the Premier League title.

This is what you do when you’re 10-points clear at the end of April.

An Arsenal fan had his girlfriend take a written exam about the club

It started with a warning shortly before Sunday’s match between Arsenal and Chelsea. Twitter user @saskiaisabxlla shared a screenshot of a text message later revealed to be from her boyfriend. It read “I might make an Arsenal exam for you” and was followed by the threat of “If you fail, we’re through.”

If it continued…. (Arsenal v Chelsea)

Arsenal and Chelsea settled for a scoreless draw at the Emirates, extending Jose Mourinho’s unbeaten streak against Arsene Wenger to 13 matches and putting Chelsea a step closer to a seemingly inevitable Premier League title.

Though Chelsea once again employed a strategy roughly akin to a bank handing you all of their money and daring you to escape with it, putting all the blame for the match’s lack of entertainment value on them is like blaming the guests at a party for it being dull. Arsenal had 12 shots, but just one on target. Surely the hosts must take some responsibility for poor planning and execution. And a distinct lack of guacamole.

But while others debate tactics, we must ask, “What if it conitnued?”
