Petr Cech’s expert analysis of Charlie Adam’s 65-yard goal against Chelsea

Though it is fair to say that I, Petr Cech, am a goalkeeping expert, I must admit that I feel unqualified to offer an analysis of Charlie Adam’s goal against Chelsea. I say that because, unlike Tibia Cornwall, I have never conceded a 65-yard goal to Mr. Charles Adam, of all people.

It’s a bit like asking the President of the United States what it’s like to press the button that destroys the whole world in one giant nuclear explosion. He’s never done it, so he just doesn’t know. I’ve never let Charlie Adam score a goal of the season contender from inside his own half, so I have a difficult time comprehending what that level of embarrassment could be like. I can tell you what it’s like to make big saves to help Chelsea win the Champions League final, but this…I’m afraid I just can’t comprehend it.

Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths smuggled a snack onto the bench during St. Mirren win

Sitting on the bench and watching your teammates run around can make you hungry. And since Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is smart, he had the foresight to stash a teacake in his pocket so he could enjoy it while watching his side’s match against St. Mirren from the bench.

As tends to happen when you bring a treat for later, Griffiths ended up eating his Tunnock’s Tea Cake early on in what would be a 2-0 win for Celtic. Maybe he knew that he wouldn’t feature in the match. Or maybe he didn’t.

Flamengo manager one-ups Mourinho, puts tape over his mouth during press conference

News of a Portuguese speaking former Real Madrid manager covering his mouth with tape in protest against being suspended for something he had said probably has Jose Mourinho’s name at the forefront of your mind, but it actually wasn’t him. It was Flamengo manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who apparently feels the same way about the Rio de Janeiro state football federation as Mourinho does about the FA.

Laura Bassett stopped her run up to the ball and pretended to argue with teammate Alex Greenwood, creating a diversion so Greenwood could tap a pass to Ellen White, who curled a shot into the back of the net.

Raheem Sterling and Liverpool have come to an impasse. He would like more money, and perhaps a different club, and they would like him to stay for the money he’s currently on. Sterling, who is 20 years old with 14 England caps and in his third full season with the club, is currently making £35,000 a week and has reportedly turned offers from £100,000 a week to £180,000 a week.

All of those figures are high for a player his age. So why does he think he’s worth so much? Here’s where he ranks amongst Liverpool players in a few key stats this season…

Internacional player sent off for giving his own club’s fans the finger

Just when you thought that Steven Gerrard’s 38-second appearance against Manchester United was the strangest sending off of 2015, Internacional defender Fabricio provides one that’s even more surreal.

Both Internacional and visiting Ypiranga were reduced to 10 men late in the first half, but the 28 year old put his side down to nine in the 63rd minute when he apparently couldn’t take the verbal abuse of his own club’s fans any longer and gave them not one middle finger, but two.

Guus Hiddink scolds Netherlands fans who jeered Andres Iniesta

Though the Netherlands took some degree of revenge on Spain for the 2010 World Cup final by mercilessly beating them 5-1 in their first match of the 2014 World Cup, some members of the Dutch public still seem to be holding a grudge. So when Spain visited for Tuesday’s friendly, they targeted the man who scored the goal that denied them their first ever World Cup title five years ago, Andres Iniesa, with jeers when he came off the bench late in the match.

While most people would write this off as a natural part high level competition, Netherlands manager Guus Hiddink took offense. And after his side’s morale boosting 2-0 win, he decided to express his somewhat odd feelings on the matter. It didn’t seem to be an April Fool’s joke, either.
