Man City superfan and former member of Oasis Noel Gallagher can see the future. Prior to the Capital One Cup final between City and Liverpool, he was asked to give a prediction before heading into Wembley to watch the match. So he only went and foretold the exact result. A City win. On penalties. With Yaya Toure delivering the final blow.
As if having Mathieu Flamini score a brace to beat you 2-1 in the Capital One Cup (FLAMINI! A BRACE!) and getting Wayne Gretzky’s name wrong wasn’t bad enough, Spurs had the added displeasure of having the signage around White Hart Lane torn down by the visiting supporters.
“Hey, Harry, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry about all this. I know it’s tough to lose a cup final. It happens to the best of us, though. See these hands? Even though you couldn’t get a single shot past them today, others have. And when they did, I was just as upset as you are. But look at me now! I’ve won yet another trophy and I couldn’t be happier. Cementing his position as the king of all trolls, Chelsea striker Diego Costa picked up a coin thrown onto the pitch during the Capital One Cup final and stuffed it down his shorts.
It’s been two years and 10 months since Jose Mourinho last won a non-Super Cup trophy and though this period would simply be known as “June 2012-February 2015” for most managers, it’s been a personal worst for Mourinho. But the Capital One Cup final against Spurs offered him the chance to end the talk of him losing his silver touch. And he made the most of it in every way possible.
Spurs are very excited about being in a cup final, but since a few years have passed since they last reached this point in 2009, they felt the need to help supporters through the most basic elements of party planning for the occasion. You know, just in case a sizable portion of their fanbase thinks that nachos are made with rat poison and have never experienced a social gathering before.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson and Chelsea striker Diego Costa reportedly had to be separated in the tunnel following the first leg of their Capital One Cup semifinal at Anfield. Though confrontations with opponents are a near daily occurrence for Costa, this one was a bit different since it continued after the final whistle. The following is a transcript of what happened in that tunnel.
Chelsea’s defenders couldn’t agree on how to contain Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling in the firs leg of their Capital One Cup semifinal, so they decided to try out a few different things. For example, John Terry went with a fun new game called “surprise wrestling” in which he and Sterling formed some kind of malformed human centipede.
