U.S. beat Germany with late stunner, become Friendly Champions of the World

Proving that the scare they gave Germany in the last World Cup was no fluke, the United States beat Germany 2-1 in Germany to become the Friendly Champions of the World. Bobby Wood scored the winner in the 87th minute, giving the 22-year-old his second late winner in as many matches after doing the same to the Netherlands last in a 4-3 friendly win last week. And by the way, those happen to be his first two international goals, as well.

The US came back from 3-1 down to beat the Netherlands for the first time ever in a friendly at the Amsterdam Arena that was roughly equivalent to a derailed train crashing into a helicopter. Before getting into the match itself, there are two key pieces of information that need to be stated.

1. Since Guus Hiddink replaced Louis van Gaal after the Nethelands finished third at last summer’s World Cup, the Dutch have decided that defending is morally wrong.

2. The US have been blowing leads by conceding late goals like that’s the object of the game.

Brek Shea stuns U.S. fans with pretty free kick in Swiss draw

In an attempt to move the U.S. past the deep, deep Bendtner shame they suffered last week, Brek Shea scored a beauty of a free kick at the end of the first half in their friendly against Switzerland. Shea only scored twice before for the U.S., both of which came in 2013. So for at least one U.S. fan who made the trip to Zurich, this occurrence was literally jaw dropping.
