MLS has announced the Fan XI and league commissioner Don Garber’s two selections for the league’s All-Star squad, which will face Tottenham Hotspur in this year’s All-Star Game on July 29. Of those 13 players, only two are guaranteed spots on the teamsheet — the bossman’s picks. Who happen to be a couple of guys who have never appeared in an MLS match as of their selection and have spent the last 15 years proving they can’t play together. Yes, the LA Galaxy’s Steven Gerrard and NYCFC/Man City’s Frank Lampard.

Petr Cech might be a little obsessed with the No. 33
If you’ve seen the 2007 film The Number 23, starring Jim Carrey, then you know what a fixation on a single number can do to a person. Sadly, it appears Petr Cech’s move to Arsenal has set him down this path.

How FIFA’s official world rankings are compiled
The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings for July have been released and as usual, there are some curious placements. Argentina have replaced the world champions in the top spot despite losing in the Copa America final, Romania and Wales are in the top 10, the USA dropped seven spots despite beating the Netherlands and Germany (in friendlies), and Algeria are the only non-European or South American team in the top 20.
Naturally, FIFA’s bizarre and consistently useless rankings prompt fans and journalists alike to wonder exactly how they are compiled. Now, for the first time ever, DT can reveal the full process of how your FIFA rankings are made.
Goalkeeper cuts out the middleman, throws ball into his own net
A goalkeeper in an Argentina third division match simplified this whole business of football by throwing the ball into his own net. I mean, why bother with all the back and forth and anticipation when you can just get right to the point?
His team went on to lose 5-0, because once this happens, there just isn’t a point in trying anymore.
