No one enjoyed the Capital One Cup final more than Jose Mourinho

It’s been two years and 10 months since Jose Mourinho last won a non-Super Cup trophy and though this period would simply be known as “June 2012-February 2015” for most managers, it’s been a personal worst for Mourinho. But the Capital One Cup final against Spurs offered him the chance to end the talk of him losing his silver touch. And he made the most of it in every way possible.

Spurs provide sad cup final party planning tools for their most incompetent fans

Spurs are very excited about being in a cup final, but since a few years have passed since they last reached this point in 2009, they felt the need to help supporters through the most basic elements of party planning for the occasion. You know, just in case a sizable portion of their fanbase thinks that nachos are made with rat poison and have never experienced a social gathering before.

Conspiracy Theory: Harry Kane is a character designed by the FA and a marketing company

Harry Kane, the 21-year-old Spurs striker currently enjoying a run of form to rival Lionel Messi’s for best in the world, is not the person he seems to be. Of course, that’s easy to say when most observers of the game only just learned of his existence this season, but the creation of “Harry Kane” has been more than a decade in the making. And the objective is to produce the perfect mix of talent and benign likability in order to further propel the Premier League and English football to even greater financial and sporting success.

Mario Balotelli finally scores Premier League goal for Liverpool, gets berated for not celebrating

With Liverpool and Spurs even at 2-2, Mario Balotelli replaced Daniel Sturrridge in the 74th minute for the home side. To many observers, this seemed like a curious and futile decision, since Balotelli hadn’t scored in his previous 12 Premier League appearances for Liverpool even with a healthy number of quality chances afforded to him.

But in the 83rd minute, Balotelli ended his goalless streak by sweeping the ball into the net from close range. He then did his trademark non-celebration before getting mobbed by his teammates, and Liverpool went on to win 3-2.

Harry Kane is good at kicking American footballs too

Being England’s next great hope is a sentence of certain doom, so Tottenham striker Harry Kane is getting a start on exploring other careers. And with the Super Bowl coming up (which Harry is apparently very excited about), he decided to try kicking a field goal. Without the proper goal posts.

Kane’s kick was long and straight and might get the attention of NFL scouts. But even if it doesn’t, Ted Lasso will be proud.

In defense of selfie sticks: football’s latest enemy

There is a new outrage in football and clubs are quickly starting to take action in order to stop it before it completely ruins the game forever. No, it’s not something actually important like racism, sexism, homophobia, or xenophobia — it’s something worse than all of those things combined, wrapped in a suit and named Sepp Blatter. It’s called a “selfie stick” and it is somehow a thing that people care about.

If it continued… (Spurs v Chelsea)

Spurs gave Chelsea a surprise by coming back from 1-0 down to win 5-3 at White Hart Lane on the first day of the new year. A brace from 21-year-old Harry Kane made him the star as Jose Mourinho stewed in his own conspiracy theories and Chelsea’s defending failed them miserably. This made for a rowdy match and demands that we ask the all-important question: “What if it continued?”

Basel eliminate Liverpool from Champions League, console/mock them with cartoon

Swiss champions Basel held on for a 1-1 draw with 10-man Liverpool on Tuesday, eliminating the Reds from the Champions League after beating them earlier in the group stage. Following the match, a cartoon was posted to the club’s official Instagram account depicting a battered Liverpool player being carried away by a Chelsea player (whom Basel beat twice in last season’s Champions League group stage) and a Spurs player (whom Basel eliminated from the Europa League quarterfinals on penalties in 2012/13…before losing to eventual champions Chelsea in the semifinals).
